The story of success and excellence of Rasha, 9 years old, Iraq - Diyala

Rasha lost her mother and two of her brothers when she was seven years old, becoming an orphan after having lost her father before that. Rasha moved to live with her uncle, who later became responsible for her. The uncle sent her to a school for orphan children, as he thought it would be the ideal place for his orphan niece, along with other classmates - orphans - who shared the same sad circumstances that she was going through. Rasha's family was not displaced. They were residents of the town of Al-Muqdadiya, which is considered a major destination for families displaced from other areas in eastern Al-Muqdadiya. This area was largely targeted by aerial bombardment and even armed confrontations. Rasha's family was not of high income, but it was a well-educated family, both of her parents were teachers, and they hoped to raise their children to be in higher education. The father died as a result of the military confrontations that took place in the region, leaving the mother with 4 sons and two daughters to raise, support and teach. The mother continued the work in which she excelled, which was teaching at Al-Miqdad Girls School, where the Seeds of Goodness Relief and Development Organization supervised the provision of services. During the bombing campaign on the town of Muqdadiya in December 2014, the family lost their only breadwinner, the mother, along with two children who were frightened and hiding their heads under their mother’s arms. After Rasha moved to live with her uncle’s family, who was unable to provide sufficient income and psychological support for his orphaned nephews, who had left behind their families to face the difficulty of life alone in Iraq. For Rasha, the orphan school was not the appropriate place to learn, but her childish hope remained inside her, wishing for a better tomorrow. The teachers at Al-Miqdad Girls School remained loyal to their beloved classmate Fatima (Rasha’s mother) and never forgot Rasha. After the developments and services carried out by the Seeds of Goodness Organization for Relief and Development in their school, the teachers communicated with Rasha’s older sister, who was forced to work with her older brother to provide the minimum standard of living. Their siblings after they all returned to live in the same house they used to live in after her rehabilitation by Seeds of Goodness. On September 1, 2018, Rasha returned to enroll in the fourth grade at her school, “Al-Miqdad Girls School,” where her mother used to teach for nearly 10 years. The shock that Rasha felt had a great impact on the little girl, and she now fears any sudden sounds due to the bombing that targeted her home. “What scared me most was the bombing, it was hitting our house,” noted Zahraa, Rasha’s teacher, who attended the “Child Protection Policy Training.” For a period of three days, in addition to another training provided by Seeds of Goodness employees, she did not show the same reactions to her classmates, did not participate in playing with them, and spoke a minimum of words. The teacher tried to encourage Rasha, by talking to her and gaining her confidence, and motivating her to attend Lessons, and most importantly, talking to her about her family, about the parents she lost. The teacher noticed that drawing is one of the most useful tools for children to express their ideas, so she encouraged the children, including Rasha, to draw, and Rasha actually began drawing with her friends using the materials and colors that the Seeds of Goodness team provided to the school. It is clear that Rasha will still remember her mother and father and talk about them, as she said: “The thing that will help me the most is for my parents to live with us again.” But wouldn't it be much better for Rasha to be able to mention her parents and express her feelings of losing them, in order to be able to overcome these difficult days in her life? Rasha's teachers insisted on helping her overcome her problems and get back on track in her classroom. Her teacher became very proud and happy, and she said: “Rasha plays with her friends again, practices her hobbies, and we draw a lot.” Although the education that Rasha previously received in the second and third grades was not good enough for what she deserved, she was able to excel in the fourth grade with the support and care of her school. Rasha now participates in class very actively. She plays with her friends, especially her best friend Sama, and she talks to her teacher a lot. Now, Rasha is more optimistic about achieving her amazing ambition. “My dream is to be a doctor. I will continue my education and achieve my dream...
