Maryam and her family left the village of Al-Tala’a in Al-Khalis District, Diyala Governorate, to a camp in Kirkuk in 2014. When she was displaced, Maryam not only lost her material possessions, but also her home, which was severely damaged during her displacement. Worse still, due to difficulties in obtaining medicine, Maryam's husband died of diabetes on the way to the camp, leaving her to navigate an unknown future as the head of the family. Maryam stayed in Kirkuk camp for four months, as the camp could not accommodate her large family. They left the camp to settle temporarily in an area inside Kirkuk, in an abandoned house obtained from a relative of her deceased husband in Kirkuk Governorate. And she lived there. After her village was liberated in 2016, Maryam and her family returned to see their house, and found that it had been severely damaged. The house was burned, with holes in the ceiling as a result of the bombing, and the doors and windows were completely uninhabitable. They were forced to return to an area in Kirkuk. The Seeds of Goodness Organization for Relief and Development in Diyala continues to work to rehabilitate destroyed homes, such as Maryam’s house, after restoring rooms, ceilings, health facilities, electricity, doors, windows, etc. Maryam returned to her home and she was happy to return her home again, as she thanked the organization and the supporting committees for her method, noting that she is a graduate of the college of studies in the Arabic Language Department. The rehabilitation of the shelter became possible with the support of the international organization (SELAVIP). The most vulnerable people and those who are in dire need remain. To humanitarian assistance are those affected by the 2014-2017 conflict against ISIS, in particular displaced persons. They have lost all or part of their shelter and livelihoods, and their lives have been exposed to great physical and psychological risks.
