Unfortunately, in many Iraqi families, girls traditionally have fewer or relatively limited educational opportunities with boys receiving educational preference. We help level the playing field by providing scholarships to girls at risk of dropping out of school. Girls receive guidance to help them stay on track with their educational goals. They also receive education in reproductive health. This helps ensure that they do not drop out of school due to early motherhood.
Due to poverty, many Iraqi girls do not attend or complete primary school. For youth between the ages of 15 and 24 in Iraq, the male literacy rate is 70.5% and female literacy is 52.1% (UNICEF statistics). Early marriage also prevents girls from pursuing education and gaining self-sufficiency/independence. The preference for boys' education still prevails in many circles – with boys receiving priority access to limited opportunities. This puts girls at a significant disadvantage.
This project helps girls stay in school and complete their education. Your financial support helps make dreams come true. Together we empower girls. This support closes the gender gap so more girls can stay in school and graduate. Targeted training ensures that girls have the life and mental skills needed for continued success and progress. Computer, vocational, and business training opportunities ensure progress toward self-sufficiency.
This project helps girls break out of the vicious cycle of poverty that traps unskilled and resource-poor girls. Vulnerable girls mature into well-educated, liberated, gainfully employed, and self-sufficient women. These empowered women are the pillars of their families, their communities, and their nation. When the mother of the house is educated, the health, well-being and success of the entire family is pushed forward and transformed. Educated girls educate the entire nation.
